Being organized up front helps prevent problems later.

By asking the student questions that may lead to the correct answer, a teacher has prompted critical thinking while maintaining the students self esteem. Be sure to thank the student when the correct answer is finally given.

The seating arrangement in a classroom can impact learning.  I prefer not to assign seating, because I feel like there is very little a student has control over in the learning environment, and allowing them to choose their own seats gives them some control.

Using positive language can make all the difference for students.  It's like manifestation - if you start off by throwing out a negative association with something, you're going to attract a negative outcome.

I've worked with many students with varying disabilities; from blind or deaf students to those with physical or mental disabilities.  I've found that a lot of these students don't want special treatment (beyond reasonable accommodations); they know what they are capable of, and in most cases they have a drive to push beyond their limitations.

I love using learning groups because it gives students a chance to explore concepts and ideas without having a teacher looming over their shoulder.

When I'm introducing myself to a class or student for the first time, one of the first things I touch on is asking questions.  I make it very clear that my classroom is a judgement-free zone, and that no question is "stupid".  However, I do provide them with various venues to ask their questions, in the event that they still aren't comfortable asking something publicly.  In my experience, just having an option for them makes them feel more comfortable from the start, and they will be more likely to ask questions as they arise.

Many people benefit from different learning styles depending on the information being presented, how it's presented, etc.  Nobody learns by only ONE learning style.  I think it's important to mix up your teaching styles, and push students to be open to other learning styles as well.

Preparation is important for every single class, even if you've taught that particular class 100 times.  You have to be ready for questions that you've never been asked before, and new classroom situations.  Every class should be unique, even though the same content is being covered.

Different delivery options help with students learning by keeping the students interested and engaged in learning. Students like variety to help keep them focused.
